Aviemore
Got stiffed last night here: £18 for a one man tent for the night in a caravan/campsite. A fool and his money are easily parted, as I got down the road this morning I discovered a youth hostel where I could have been warm and snug for the same price - gutted. Aviemore is like a Scandinavian village, all alpine, with people wearing roll necks and salopettes (see below), it’s a bit on the pricey side mind.
Had a lovely walk yesterday, my bag is much lighter now, I have ditched most of the gear, it makes a real difference. I have realised that I really hate cars and the way people drive, I have seen some terrible road kills: deer, buzzards and rabbits, but I saw a real eagle dead in the road yesterday, I felt like putting it in my bag and bringing it home, it was really sad.
I’m on my way to Inverness today, with a lighter bag I can walk further. I reckon I’ve got 120 miles left of this f’in walk left.
Message to Simon: I’ve got to do this walk as quick as poss as I’m running out of money mate! Good luck with the Ironman.
I don’t wish to offend our Scottish brethren but Edward I was the b****cks.
Now reading HG Wells’ Time Machine, it was the thinnest book I could find.

Newtonmore
I did 33 miles yesterday from a place called Blair Atholl. It was great to see my cousin Sara and her husband David, who came up to see me. I had an Oasis and a Mars bar which I cadged from the kids, quality food for the walking man. I’m sorry to them that I didn’t smell worse as I had managed to have a shower just before seeing them. A big thanks to them for coming to see me. I’m hoping to get to Aviemore tonight, I may try to go further and get ahead of my itinerary.
There is truly nothing here, no burger stalls/lorry caffs or shops for miles, I’m existing on mars bars and coffee.
I met a nice family on Wednesday, they stopped and asked me if I had fallen off my bike, I walk so bad in the evenings they honestly thought I had injured myself.
I can smell the finish line at John O Groats. Looking forward to my hitchhike home.
I am enjoying a book called Edward I by Mark Morris I’m just at the bit where he does the Scots up like kippers. Quote:
“A man’s job is well done when he gets rid of a turd”. He is talking about Scotland. Maybe that’s why the Scots have a problem with the English then!
I reckon I’ve got about a week to go. Can’t wait to finish.
